This is a reply to Geert Wilders' film Fitna, highlighting the faults in his hatred-stirring arguments, and enabling everyone to get their facts right.

An eye for an eye in the Torah, Bible and Qur'an

Verses mentioned in the Fitna film:

Surah Anfal, verse 60: Geert fails to include the very next verse which says, “And if they incline to peace, then incline to it also and rely upon Allah. Indeed it is he who is the hearing, the knowing.”

Surah Nisa verse 56 is referring to the punishments in Hell – as decreed by God – not carried out by people! Plenty of warnings about Hell are in the Torah and Bible.

Surah Muhammed verse 47 was revealed at the time of the Battle of Badr (i.e. in relation to a specific situation), which occurred after the Prophet Muhammed and his followers had been persecuted for years- including torture, murder and starvation. Up until the Battle of Badr they had never been allowed to fight back.

Verses not mentioned in the Fitna film:

The Bible: Samuel 15:2-3: Saul is told: “Now go attack the Amalekites and totally destroy everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.”

The Bible: Numbers 31:3: “So Moses said to the people, 'Arm some of your men and go to war against the Midanites and carry out the Lord's vengeance on them'.”

The Bible: Luke 27: Jesus says, “But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be a king over them- bring them here and kill them in front of me.”

Don't forget that homosexuality, fornication and adultery are banned according to Judaism and Christianity, as well as Islam. That is not to say that anyone should go around persecuting people or carrying out judgments.

All of this is not to say any religion should hate any other, but taken out of context, or read with blinkers on, any belief system can be made to look bad.

Double Standards

Now let us look at the double standards of some “Westerners” like Geert. They may say that Islam promotes violence, so let us just have a peek at some of the violence perpetrated by “Christian” countries.

Bosnia: During the Bosnian war, in Europe, in the 1990's, “Christian” Serb forces conducted a sexual abuse strategy on Bosnian Muslim girls and women, which will later be known as mass rape phenomenon. Between 20,000 and 44,000 women were systematically raped by the “Christian” Serb forces. The women and young girls were often held captives for up to 8 months or more, before being released or killed, often strategically beyond the possibility of abortion. During this time they were kept under constant fear, threat, violence, humiliation and sexual abuse.

Common profound complications among surviving women and girls include gynecological, physical and psychological (post traumatic) disorders, as well as unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. Serb soldiers or policemen would come to detention centres, select one or more women, take them out and rape them. All this was done in full view, in complete knowledge and sometimes with the direct involvement of the Serb local authorities, particularly the police forces. The head of Foča police force, Dragan Gagović, was personally identified as one of the men who came to these detention centres to take women out and rape them.

British soldiers raping local women in Kenya: The alleged crimes which stretch back over three decades took place in central Kenya where the British army runs training exercises.

"Look at his skin," shouted one woman. "His father is a British soldier who raped me."

The Crusades: The Roman Catholic church taught that going to war against the "Infidels" was an act of Christian penance. If a believer was killed during a crusade, he would bypass purgatory, and be taken directly to heaven. This meant many Christians were strongly motivated to volunteer for the crusades. "After pronouncing a solemn vow, each warrior received a cross from the hands of the Pope or his legates, and was thenceforth considered a soldier of the Church."

The Crusaders from Europe then invaded in 1099, conquering Jerusalem and massacring both Jews and Muslims.

And A Very Recent Event – Baghdad: A city full of civilians was bombarded from the air by “Christian” America. What do you think those civilians went through when we all watched on T.V as if it was a firework display?

Female Circumcision

Female circumcision was practiced in certain countries long before the religion of Islam reached there. There is no evidence that this practice was widespread among the relatives or companions of Prophet Muhammad. Moreover, the practice has never been prevalent in the regions where Islam originated – Mecca and Madinah and the surrounding areas of Arabia. It is extremely rare. If female circumcision had been endorsed by Islamic Law, it would have been practiced in those regions, whereas only male circumcision is practiced, due to the authentic evidence in the Sunnah.

There are hadith that mention circumcision for women, but they have weak lines of transmission (i.e. are not reliable), and even then they certainly have no relevance to the mutilation which is today described as circumcision. In depth details about this can be found at islamtoday.com.

Therefore, female circumcision is a cultural practice that has no prescribed Islamic ruling for it, and that is supported by no decisive textual evidence. It is a regional custom in the places where it is practiced. We must then take into consideration that many medical professionals consider it to have detrimental affects for the girls who undergo the operation. On that basis, it would be impermissible to allow this custom to continue. In Islamic Law, preservation of the person – the life and bodily soundness of the person – is a legal necessity. Anything that compromises this legal necessity by bringing harm to the person is unlawful.

Whilst on the subject of the mutilation of women – isn't breast enhancement mutilation? Are you aware that many western women are having vaginal surgery in order to meet standards imposed on them by pornographic publications?

If he has really studied Islam, how could he miss the following:

We know that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, holding up his two fingers together: "The one who takes care of an orphan is with me in Paradise like this." [Sahîh al-Bukhârî]

Once a man asked the Prophet (peace be upon him): Is there a reward for the charity that we give to animals? He answered: "For every being possessing a moist liver, there is a reward." [Sahîh al-Bukarî]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Never does a Muslim a plant a tree or sow a crop and a bird, human being, or beast eats from it without earning the reward of charity.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî]

Allah says: “O Children of Adam! Wear your beautiful apparel at every time and place of prayer. Eat and drink, but waste not by excess, for Allah loves not the wasters.” [Sûrah al-A`râf: 31]

As Muslims, most of us are deeply upset by Geert Wilders' claims – I wouldn't even say angry. It is really upsetting to live in a country where, thanks to the likes of him, people view us with suspicion. Part of the anger you may see displayed is because Muslims are constantly under attack – whether it is their countries with large oil reserves, or for land as in Palestine, or psychological attacks such as this.
